Abstract

In 1800, William Herschel discovered infrared light in the Sun’s spectrum. This was the beginning of a two hundred year journey of discovery. Since then we have been able to detect signals from space in all parts of the electromagnetic spectrum.

This workshop will provide a worksheet for each band of the spectrum covering:

- the wavelengths and energies involved

- the telescopes used in detection

- the significance of the astronomy and

- how to relate the energy band to everyday items.
